Emily Jubenvill ~ "Growing Community"

Vancouver Public Space Network

Exploring how to start gardens to provide food and community in an urban environment.  Cities are anonymous landscapes, with little opportunity for intergenerational and intercultural learning and sharing to occur. Community gardens provide a unique space to explore and develop these relationships regardless of language or cultural barriers; empowering people to come together to grow food and build resilient communities. We'll explore how to create these spaces and facilitate building these relationships.

Emily Jubenville

Emily Jubenvill grew up on the North Shore of Vancouver, and Bowen Island. With a degree in environmental science from Royal Roads University, she focuses most of her energy on urban agriculture and all things 'sustainable'. She is the Community Gardens Coordinator for the Vancouver Public Space Network, and is working on several community garden projects across the city. Last year she started the first community garden on Bowen Island - the Davie's Orchard Community Garden. Emily is also a co-founder of Small Feet Inc., which is a carbon and sustainability consulting firm. When she's not working or volunteering, you can find Emily tending to her vegetable patch, laughing, on a mountain, or by the sea.
