BTCEA’s Wisdom Circles convene educators, youth, and other collaborators who are committed to advancing socio-ecological education within the BC school system. These Wisdom Circles, which have occurred regularly for over a decade, allow teachers, students and community members to bring forward insights, perspectives, and lived experiences to shape BTCEA’s priorities and program plans. We recently formed a Wisdom Circle dedicated to Justice, Equity, Diversity, Decolonization and Inclusion (JEDDI) to hold us accountable to our anti-racism commitments and offer perspectives on how we can incorporate justice into our educational programs.
The JEDDI Wisdom Circle launched in 2021 and has:
- Led us to weave social justice and local perspectives into creating our United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) resources and workshops.
- Led us to create an equitable and safe monitoring and evaluation approach for the Reclaiming the Environmental Narrative (REN) project
- Provided support in adapting Youth for Climate Action into Youth for Climate Justice, with an explicit emphasis on support and accessibility for BIPOC and other marginalized communities
- Provided feedback and guidance on BTCEA’s internal Anti-Racism and JEDDI commitments, approach and objectives. Specifically in terms of our internal decolonization work which began in 2022
We are currently seeking advice and guidance for our new project CARE. We hope to keep engaging the JEDDI Wisdom Circle on current and future projects, programs, and internal organizational processes in the years to come!
Thank you to our JEDDI Wisdom Circle members for their valued contributions to our work and passion to advocate for racial and environmental justice!
