BTCEA’s Wisdom Circles convene educators, youth, and other collaborators who are committed to advancing socio-ecological education within the BC school system. These Wisdom Circles, which have occurred regularly for over a decade, allow teachers, students and community members to bring forward insights, perspectives, and lived experiences that have shaped BTCEA’s priorities and program plans. We recently formed a Wisdom Circle dedicated to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) to help hold us accountable to our anti-racism commitments and offer perspectives on how we can incorporate justice into our educational programs.
In the JEDI Wisdom Circle’s first year, we have focused on receiving input on weaving social justice, local, and Indigenous perspectives into a new project focused on educating and empowering youth to take action on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We also received detailed input regarding our monitoring and evaluation approach for the Reclaiming the Environmental Narrative project. We hope to keep engaging the JEDI Wisdom Circle on our current and future projects, programs, and internal organizational processes in the years to come!
Thank you to our JEDI Wisdom Circle members and their valued contributions to our work as well as passion to advocate for racial and environmental justice!
