October 20th Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers, School Administrators, and District Managers
Be The Change Earth Alliance is excited to continue to offer professional development opportunities that engage educators on the value and importance of sustainability education. On October 20th, we are offering two workshops.
Morning Workshop: 21st century approaches to empowering Student Leadership in Sustainability
Participants will explore leading-edge pedagogical and curricular tools to engage student inquiry, both in and outside the classroom, on environmental sustainability. The SLS: Student Leadership in Sustainability curriculum materials help teachers fulfill the new Ministry’s guidelines and develop and assess student competency in Critical & Creative Thinking, Communication Skills, and Personal/Social Responsibility.
SLS’s cross-curricular materials enable student inquiry into global sustainability issues in a wide variety of courses including Science, Socials, Geography, Foods, Family, Planning, Leadership, Social Justice, English, and provides teachers with core competency planning and assessment tools.
400 Progressive educators in over 94 BC schools have provided environmental education to 15,000 students through SLS, connect, understand, and respond to the environmental and social challenges facing our planet.
Afternoon Workshop: Climate Action Champions
Teachers, School and District Administrators, Students, District Energy and Sustainability Managers are invited to explore a regional initiative that puts powerful climate change solutions in the hands of school communities. Climate Action Champions supports short and long-term environmentally sustainable school culture change through action-oriented education that informs and engages students and school communities in climate change solutions.
At this workshop, participants will explore a variety of roles in fostering holistic, action-oriented learning environments where students have their hope for the future restored and build knowledge and skills in working towards collective action. This new initiative is launching in Vancouver, Burnaby, Delta, and Richmond school districts.
If you are an environmental education champion in any other district and would like to know how your district can participate, this workshop is also for you!
