I value feeling connected to myself and to others, in human and natural community.
So often the hustle and bustle of everyday life can leave us feeling distracted and stressed out. Many of us live such busy lives that we don’t take the time to really get to know ourselves, those around us, or the incredible web of life that we are all a part of.
Some 200 years ago, the Industrial Revolution ushered in a mechanistic world view that assumed we are all separate from each other, from other life forms, and from the natural life support systems that sustain us all. Over the course of the last century, however, scientific studies of astronomy, quantum physics, systems theory and ecology have brought us a new understanding of an evolving, responsive universe and a world comprised of dynamic, interdependent relationships and systems. We are not merely a collection of separate functioning parts.
In valuing our relationships, we can live a richer life. Research indicates that strengthening our relationship with nature can reduce the effects of attention deficit disorder and help us better handle stressful situations. Being well-connected within our communities fosters a sense of belonging and creates greater happiness – and happiness, as we all know, is contagious! Developing a deeper connection with spirit and the universe endows our day-to- day lives with purpose and meaning.
