I value standing up for a socially just human presence on this planet.
As students begin to explore the deeply interconnected nature of our ecosystems, they are also exposed to the many imbalances in our global society. The economic inequalities are daunting: over three billion people, almost half of the world’s population, are barely living on less than $2/day. Over 80% of our population live on less than $10/day. To make matters worse, the most vulnerable communities are being hit the hardest by the environmental degradation caused by human activity and climate change.
When we recognize the interconnectedness of all life, we can see how each of our actions and decisions affects a multitude of other species and people. Many of the choices we make on a daily basis will either help or further degrade our over-stressed environment, affecting millions of people. Fortunately, there are many ways in which we can become informed decision makers and share our knowledge with others, minimizing the collective impact of our actions on the world’s most vulnerable communities.
