Climate Education Reform BC (CERBC) student network
CERBC has recently launched the BC Youth Climate Action Network Discord Hub, created for youth by youth dedicated to climate justice activism and awareness. Our network seeks to connect students across BC to share climate action ideas and resources, and to build a community of diverse and knowledgeable students passionate about the same cause.
The server includes a channel for getting feedback from experienced organizers, promoting events and opportunities, and talking about project ideas and challenges. The network will also hold events throughout the year, including “speed dating” for school clubs and discussions on climate justice related topics. We will also be collaborating on projects like elementary school outreach.
Here is the link to join the server!
Teaching our teachers!
Climate change and climate justice are very relevant and severe problems today. And while protecting the environment is a long-term discussion, it needs to start somewhere, for example, in schools. My team and I chose to deliver Professional Development workshops with the goal of having teachers implement more or start implementing climate education in their curriculums. This project allowed me to involve myself with my community in a whole new way. This includes spending time with teachers outside of school, and also engaging myself with global issues.

Intergenerational Education
Our team prepared a series of 6 climate justice education workshops for grade 1 students in our school, as well as a Professional Development workshop focused on integrating climate justice education in the classroom for our staff. It has been quite a rewarding experience, and seeing the students and staff be more cognizant about their actions is amazing.
Being a Climate Club leader
I worked on projects to create more awareness of climate action and speak out as I saw that not enough people truly knew what climate change meant. With my team I completed multiple projects including two clothing drives to raise awareness of fast fashion and encourage students to reduce their consumption, a beach cleanup, and hosting presentations on a variety of climate justice topics. Through this project, I’m proud of going out of my comfort zone and stepping into a leadership role where I could learn important life lessons.

Y4CJ Student Story
Throughout the last year, we have held a school-wide clean up at Byng, held a clothing swap which promoted sustainability, and held 4 different presentations to educate around 120 11-12 year olds about climate change. We are very grateful for the help Y4CJ has provided us with, and we are very proud of our accomplishments.
