Youth for Climate Justice (Y4CJ) equips diverse youth with essential skills, tools, and knowledge for lifelong climate justice and advocacy. The program empowers youth ages 12-18 across Metro Vancouver to design and launch meaningful climate justice projects in their schools and communities.

Be the Change Earth Alliance guided youth in creating 3 Rain Gardens. Through rain gardens, youth gained knowledge on the importance of protecting freshwater ecosystems, threats to freshwater ecosystems, and how they can participate in a local solution.

Reclaiming the Environmental Narrative (REN) supported a cohort of BIPOC youth (aged 14-24) to each develop a multimedia storytelling project that explores their relationship with nature, the climate crisis, and the environmental challenges that are important to them and their community.

Youth for Climate Action (Y4CA) aims to help tackle both climate change and youth ecological despair. Through Y4CA, Be the Change Earth Alliance empowered teams of Vancouver youth (ages 14-18) to design and implement meaningful climate action projects in their communities.

Climate Action Champions Initiative

Climate Action Champions Initiative

Climate Action Champion (CAChI) is a groundbreaking initiative to educate and engage youth in individual, home, school, and neighbourhood climate actions. Assembly presentations, in-class workshops, curricular resources, an online action and engagement portal, and a Climate Action Week engage 20,000 students, their peers, families, and neighbours in the importance of taking action for the climate in 2018.

Citizens of the Future

Building on our Climate Action Champions initiative, CotF empowers at-risk youth and emerging sustainability leaders through hands-on climate education and leadership training. We deliver workshops, assemblies, and mentorship programs that support youth in launching their own environmental projects. Volunteers are trained to present on climate action, and student-led initiatives are showcased to inspire lasting change in schools and communities.

Social Innovation & Education Research

Social Innovation & Education Research

BTCEA’s Founding Director, Maureen Jack-LaCroix, leads Ph.D. research into social innovation interventions within B.C.’s education system. The focus: cultivating school cultures that nurture environmentally conscious citizens. Through Social Innovation Lab technology, BTCEA has launched a community-action research process that brings together educators and stakeholders to share expertise, co-create school-based initiatives, and prototype projects that inspire lasting, sustainable change.

Waste Watchers is a suite of educational resources and activities designed to engage and empower students to lead local zero waste solutions. Tailored for leadership classes and environmental clubs, these tools empower youth to take meaningful action toward helping their schools achieve zero waste. Rooted in issues like climate change and resource depletion, our approach inspires behavior change and supports students in championing sustainability at school, at home, and in their communities.

The Awaken and Change Symposium is a powerful multimedia experience that weaves together the insights of global thought leaders like Julia Butterfly Hill, Paul Hawken, Brian Swimme, Maude Barlowe, Van Jones, and Desmond Tutu. Guided by trained facilitators, participants engage with rich audiovisual content, cutting-edge information, and reflective exercises to explore urgent questions about our relationship with the Earth—and what it means to live sustainably and consciously in today’s world.
