From Climate Anxiety to Action: Project-Based Learning for Grades 5–12
Duration: 1 - 1.5 hours
Description: Teaching climate education today can feel complex. Students are bringing real concerns about environmental degradation, political uncertainty, and their own futures into the classroom, and educators are expected to hold space for these conversations while still meeting curriculum goals.
Our professional development sessions offer creative ways to navigate these challenges with confidence using practical, classroom-ready tools to bridge the gap between curriculum and meaningful climate action. Explore adaptable strategies that help students make sense of climate change through a social and environmental justice lens, while building critical thinking, fostering constructive dialogue, and supporting student well-being and agency.
You’ll experience ready-to-use activities and project pathways that you can implement right away. We’ll focus on approaches that are engaging, manageable, and grounded in hope, helping students move from overwhelm to informed, real-world application.
Participants will receive access to Curriculum for Change, a free online library with over 20 experiential student learning guides, lesson plans, and flexible project frameworks designed to support inquiry-to-action learning. You’ll leave with:
- Plug-and-play lessons, student actions, and project ideas aligned with BC curriculum
- Scaffolds to guide students from knowledge acquisition to real-world application
- Strategies for facilitating thoughtful, age-appropriate conversations on complex issues
- Tools to support student resilience, engagement, and action
Connect with other educators, share your own best practice, and walk away with practical resources that make climate education both doable and impactful in your classroom!
