Who we are:
Be The Change Earth Alliance (BTCEA) was founded in 2005 to support positive, interconnected environmental and social change in schools and communities. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and empower youth to take personal and collective action for a just, sustainable, resilient, and personally-fulfilling world.
What we do:
We have been meeting our mandate by providing eco-social education resources and workshops to secondary schools throughout BC for the past 10 years. In more recent years, we’ve focused on eco-social classroom curricula, professional development workshops, and other capacity-building opportunities for teachers, students, and the larger community.
BTCEA’s flagship program, SLC: Student Leadership for Change offers a suite of eco-social educational resources and programming fully updated with climate justice and Indigenous perspectives. These action-oriented resources use integrated learning approaches and pedagogies of hope to empower youth in engaging with today’s greatest environmental and social issues. BTCEA also delivers inspiring classroom assemblies and workshops, and offers professional development workshops to teachers to bring game-changing eco-social education into their classrooms.
In 2019, we released the ‘Climate Action Unit,’ a selection of SLC modules that best fit into the moment of climate action we are living in. The unit also includes one brand new module, called ‘Climate Justice.’ For more information about our programs, please click here.
What we believe:
We believe that when an individual's passion for action is activated, they shift their behaviour and can lead to meaningful climate action changes in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. We believe that a collective of engaged and activated citizens has the power to shift cultural norms and create a better future.
